2020 Summer Reading Requirements

2020 Summer Reading Requirements

​Grade 9

9A

All entering grade 9A students will choose and read one book from the 9th grade reading list.
Steps:
  1. ​Read a book of your choice from the 9th grade reading list.
  2. Be prepared to discuss and participate in some form of assessment for your book when you return to school.

​9Honors

All entering grade 9 Honors students will read the introduction and PART ONE: “The Gods, the Creation, and the Earliest Heroes” in Mythology by Edith Hamilton AND a book of your choice from the 9th grade reading list.
Steps:
  1. Read the introduction and part 1 of Mythology by Edith Hamilton.
  2. Complete the linked study guide for Mythology.
  3. Read a book of your choice from the 9th grade reading list.
  4. Be prepared to discuss and participate in some form of assessment for your book when you return to school.

​10A

All entering grade 10A students will choose and read one book from the 10th grade reading list.

All entering grade 10 Honors students will read The Crucible by Arthur Miller and will choose and read one book from the 10th grade reading list.
Steps:
  1. Read The Crucible by Arthur Miller
  2. Suggested that you take guided notes to prepare for a test and project in the fall.
  3. Read a book of your choice from the 10th grade reading list.
  4. Be prepared to discuss and participate in some form of assessment for both books when you return to school.

AP Seminar

All entering grade 10/11 AP Seminar students will choose and read one non-fiction book from the list of AP Seminar choices, and complete the assigned tasks. ​
Steps:
  1. Join Google Classroom.
  2. Review the AP Seminar Topic Lense Diagram.
  3. Read a non fiction book and complete the assignment.
  4. Select and complete the news assignment.

All entering grade 11 Honors students will read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and one book from the 11th grade reading list.
Steps:

  2. Take notes in your books as you read (or on sticky notes)
  3. Read one book from the 11th grade reading list.
  4. Be prepared for an exam when you return to school.

All entering grade 11 AP students will read either Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly (adult version) OR The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, and a book of your choice from the 11th grade list. You will also participate in the New York Times Summer Reading Contest.
Steps:
  1. ​Read either Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly (adult version) OR The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
  2. Participate in the New York Times Summer Reading Contest* - SEE LINKED ASSIGNMENT

Steps:
